However the overlays and helper lines when you're attack moving units etc are a nice hail from the 21st century - I hope Eugen get their hands on a copy and learn a few lessons here for the next WarGame! Also some commands being left click and some right click adds to the confusion. Sometimes your order or selection just didn't take. Sometimes you're trying to drag-select a bunch of units but instead you're giving an order to something you had selected previously. There's times when you're not sure what units you have selected, so you end up ordering half your fleet to retreat when you were trying to move that one harvester. In just a few things it feels unresponsive, incomprehensible and clunky so as a whole it doesn't meet the standards we've known from HW2 and WG. I hope they will have the opportunity to keep working on the game because in its current state it's pretty good, but not truly outstanding yet. The terrain on these maps and the variety of units probably provides plenty of challenge until they have time to add new maps. Map visuals are great and all the little hills and other terrain features hopefully make something different out of every skirmish. It feels like they went more the way of the Point Defense Mod of old from HW2, lots of tracers flying. Voice acting and weapons effects are very nice and really add to the production and entertainment values. Strategically it also plays very fast and there is even a timer so we won't be seeing the occasional one hour long games that plagued HW2. Not sure if it'd actually add to the game though.) This means that Normal and even Easy AI can outproduce and outperform me in the early game but by the midgame you already start hitting the fleet cap and resource extraction is maxed out so there is very little advantage to bigger APM in building unless you bleed units at high rates like the AI does. (I hope they give you an option to increase it 50 or even 100% in the future because I could see some players wanting that. Especially I like the fleet cap - your main fleet isn't that massive so it actually feels a bit more like WG (or even WiC) rather than HW2 where you could build truly massive forces. Perhaps what strikes me the most is how well it seems to avoid the old problems of RTS and Homeworld 2.

Others should wait a month or more because there are rough edges and the UI issues can be downright annoying to some. HW fans should be shelling out their little moneys already.

That Homeworld athmosphere, well designed and lots of fun. First impressions after one campaign mission and some skirmishes.
